NYSC launches biometric clearance in South West
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has deployed biometric technology in the clearance of Corps members to the South West States and biometric clearance will commence April 2017.
The NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Sulaiman Kazaure, made this known today while declaring open a training programme on the biometric clearance for field officers of the South West states today in Ibadan.
He said this followed successful piloting of the project in FCT and Lagos State as well as its take-off in the north west and south east states.
Kazaure, who was represented by the Director of Corps Welfare and Inspectorate Mrs. Victoria Okakwu, warned that Corps members who miss the biometric clearance without approval would not be considered for their monthly allowances.
He said the use of biometrics for mobilization and registration of Corps members at orientation camps had helped to fast-track the process, and reduced impersonation and registration of ineligible graduates.
Earlier in her introductory remarks, the Director of ICT, Mrs. Christy Uba, said the biometric clearance system was designed to enhanced adequate monitoring and monthly clearance of Corps members including CDS at their places of primary assignment using their fingerprints and personal data.
"It keeps records of absenteeism, and checkmates truancy, impersonation and other vices, which tend to undermine the aims and objectives of the Scheme; hence the need to equip our LGIs with the requisite knowledge of how this module functions," Uba added.
