The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Anambra State has raised the alarm over the ravaging erosion menace at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Unity Permanent Orientation Camp in Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, Awka South Local Council of the state.
When speaking on Tuesday at the swearing-in ceremony for the 2022 batch B, stream 1 orientation course. The state coordinator, Mrs. Blessing Iruma, lamented the erosion threat to the camp's buildings.
Iruma pleaded with the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, to intervene and save the facility by supporting the property's landscaping.
She stated that a glance around the camp would reveal that several areas have already been damaged by erosion.
"If not stopped right away, erosion could endanger the camp's attractiveness and endanger the current structures," she continued.
"While we wait for the government, we are proactive in reducing the extent of the damage.
We have temporarily filled in some of the erosion-ravaged areas because we cannot fold our hands and do nothing while the erosion sweeps us away from the camp.
I want to remind the governor that the erosion threat inside the playground for orientation needs to be addressed.
Assuring them of their safety and security before and after the orientation exercise, the State Coordinator congratulated 1,790 corps members on meeting the requirements for mobilization into the program.
