NYSC DG advises Corps Members on self-employment

The NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Sulaiman Kazaure, has advised Corps members to take advantage of programmes aimed at tackling unemployment in the country.

He gave the advice while addressing the 2016 Batch 'B' (Stream II) Corps members at the NYSC Orientation Camps in Akwa Ibom and Rivers States.

Kazaure said instead of seeking the hard-to-come-by white collar jobs, they should strive towards being their own masters and even creating jobs for others.

According to him, the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme was designed to equip the Corps members with necessary skills as well as link them up with funding sources.

The Director-General said the Scheme was collaborating with the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Bank of Industry with the aim of granting start-up loans to the Corps entrepreneurs at single digit interest rates.

He advised the Corps members against the get-rich-quick syndrome, stressing that they should make honesty and hard work their watchwords.

"There is no short cut to success; so, I expect you to pursue lawful endeavours through hard work.

"As graduates, who have been found worthy in character and learning, you must shun sharp practices and other forms of vice," he said.

The Director-General urged them to help in transforming their host communities through execution of projects under the NYSC Community Development Service.

He also enjoined them to appreciate and respect the cultures of their hosts.

While assuring them of Management's commitment to their safety and general welfare, he warned them to avoid risky engagements such as attendance of night parties, lone movements, and unnecessary journeys.
