NYSC DG: SAED programme has boosted Corps Members' interest in entrepreneurship.
The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Suleman Zakari Kazaure has said that the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme has boosted the interests of NYSC members in entrepreneurship to becoming self reliant.
The NYSC DG said this while declaring open the debriefing and planning meeting of the NYSC SAED Officers and facilitators at the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Kubwa, Abuja.
Brigadier General Kazaure was represented by the Director, Corps Welfare and Inspectorate, Mrs Victoria Bose Okakwu.
The DG noted that the programme has mobilized stakeholder support in providing training and start-up capital for Corps beneficiaries.
He however hinted that the major challenge facing the programme was lack of adequate facilities for post-camp mentoring and apprenticeship but that management has been making efforts to establish skill centres across the country.
Kazaure then urged the States and FCT SAED Officers to use the meeting as an avenue in identifying best practices among themselves and adopt same for all secretariats in order to make the programme attain greater heights.
In an address at the meeting, the Acting Director Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, Barrister (Mrs) Theresa Anosike explained that the meeting was designed to bring together all schedule officers to examine the SAED programme implementation process for the purpose of improving on their performances.
Barrister Anosike said, the SAED department has continued to make significant progress for corps members to become self reliant in line with the core objectives of the NYSC Scheme.
"The Department has been able to drive the actualisation of this objective by sheer commitment of all state SAED Officers and our local and international partners", she added.
Representatives of SAED Officers from all the six geo-political zones took turns to discuss emerging issues from their states.
