The governor of Imo State, Governor Rochas Okorocha, has directed the chairmen of the caretaker committee to allocate land to the 1,545 corps members deployed to the state to enhance agricultural production throughout the 27 local government areas.
This directive was given by the governor on Monday at Eziama Obaire in Nkwere during the opening of orientation for the 2016 Batch B corps members. He emphasized on the determination of the state to identify with the commendable agricultural policy of the Federal Government to tackle the problem of insufficient supply of food in the country.

The governor who was represented by his deputy, Eze Madumere, advised the corps members to participate seriously in all programmes that they are requested to participate in during the orientation camp. He also congratulated them for their achievements, and admonished them to discharge their duties conscientiously in their various places of assignment. In his words, he said “I welcome you to Imo hospitality. Pay attention to the programmes lined up for the orientation. Interact with one another and people of the community which is the beauty and essence of the NYSC.”
According to the State Coordinator of NYSC, Isaac Fasanu, the 1,545 corp members posted to Imo state comprised of 690 females and 855 males. The state coordinator expressed his gratitude to the state government for the various supports given to the scheme and for approving the construction of two additional hostels in the camp to accommodate more corps members. He also thanked the governor for the donation of a vehicle and asked that he continues to support the scheme by complementing their efforts in feeding and other logistics. He advised the corps members to be law-abiding as the programme will impart a positive attitude, discipline, skills and a wide world view in them and will also enable them to be independent.

He added that the scheme will equip corps members with leadership skills by preparing them both physically and mentally to the challenges of the future.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the oath taking, which was the highpoint of the programme was administered by Justice Theresa Chikeka, the representative of the Chief Judge of Imo State.
